Tax Director

North Conway, NH

Lead, Shape, and Elevate a Growing Practice

We believe tax advisory should go far beyond compliance. It's about helping clients make smarter decisions, navigate complexity, and unlock opportunities others overlook.

As we expand into North Conway, we're seeking a Tax Director to play a central role in building and leading this next phase of the firm. This is a high-impact position designed for someone who wants to influence strategy, develop people, and help define the future of a modern accounting practice.

About the Firm

Our approach is rooted in partnership--both with clients and within our team. We focus on proactive planning, thoughtful problem-solving, and long-term relationships.

Led by an entrepreneurial founder, the firm blends deep technical expertise with a fresh, flexible mindset. The culture is collaborative, forward-thinking, and grounded in trust. We take our work seriously--but not ourselves.

The Role

As Tax Director, you'll operate as a senior leader across client service, team development, and firm strategy. You'll have broad visibility, significant autonomy, and a clear voice in how the practice evolves.

This is more than a technical role--it's a leadership position with a pathway to executive-level influence.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Client Advisory

  • Serve as a senior advisor to clients across a diverse portfolio including individuals, closely held businesses, trusts, and nonprofits
  • Provide forward-looking tax strategies that support growth, succession, and long-term planning
  • Navigate complex tax matters with confidence and creativity

Practice Leadership

  • Oversee tax engagement quality, ensuring consistency and technical excellence
  • Establish best practices and improve workflows as the firm scales
  • Partner with leadership on firm-wide initiatives and growth strategy

Team Development

  • Lead, mentor, and develop tax professionals at varying levels
  • Foster a collaborative, high-performance environment
  • Act as a resource for complex technical questions and professional growth

Office Growth & Presence

  • Play a key role in building out the North Conway office
  • Strengthen client relationships and support expansion in the region
  • Contribute to the firm's reputation as a trusted advisory partner

What You Bring

  • 10+ years of progressive tax experience across multiple entity types
  • Proven success in a leadership or senior management role within public accounting
  • Strong technical command of tax law with a proactive, strategic mindset
  • Ability to build and maintain high-trust client relationships
  • Experience developing and mentoring accounting professionals
  • CPA required (or equivalent advanced credentials)

Compensation & Benefits

  • Compensation range of $130K-$180K+ with performance-based incentives
  • No expectation to generate your own book--clients are provided
  • Flexible scheduling designed around outcomes, not hours
  • Unlimited PTO
  • No excessive hours during busy season
  • 401(k) with employer contribution
  • Comprehensive health, dental, and insurance benefits
  • Continued investment in professional development

Why This Role Stands Out

This is an opportunity to step into a true leadership seat--not just oversee work, but shape it. You'll have the ability to influence client strategy, build a team, and help guide the direction of a firm that's intentionally growing.

If you're looking for a role that combines high-level tax expertise with real authority, flexibility, and long-term upside, this is worth exploring.
